Love is hope. It fuels our dreams. And if you're in it, you need to enjoy it.

Every child in the real world knows her story. It is a tale as old as time.

An imprisoned Fair Maiden, with no more power than a single rose, and yet the Truest of Hearts, who breaks The Curse of a terrible Beast, often at Great Price, often with The Kiss of True Love, and only right on the very edge of losing everything she's come to hold dear.

Then, of course, they live Happily Ever After. Forever.

But you know how stories go. Passed down from one person to another. The emphasis changing each time, with each telling, with the changing focus of each new generation. How details are forgotten, and others yet are added in to fill those places. How the message can change with the point of the telling, the lessons needed on that exact day. Maybe that isn't the real story at all.

All Belle knows for certain is that she has always dreamed, tirelessly and fruitlessly, of an adventure out in the great wide somewhere. Beyond the walls of her father's castle, and the hand of her betrothed, Gaston, and the endless horror of the Ogre Wars. She will readily admit she never pictured it as becoming a prisoner, maid and caretaker to Rumpelstiltskin's castle in the high mountains. Forever.

But her family and her friends will live through The Ogre Wars. It's a small price to pay in the end, isn't it, for so very many others? To prove, hesitation-less, with brave pride and grave sacrifice, that a woman can be more than an ornament on the arm of hero? Could be heroes themselves?

If only prices and pride could mend tea cups.

No Happy Ending comes at the middle of the story.

No one ever promised a Happy Ending would come at all, did they?

Belle is from Once Upon a Time, and is the property of herself Rumpelstiltskin (and, when and if he's feeling kind, then ABC-Disney, the writers of Lost, Fairy Tales the World Over, and Emily).
